A fine slice of turntable memorabilia, ripped from the 12" yellow vinyl single [hence the crackles]. Released on Terre's Comatonse label [C.004]. 1998. NB: The reason the artiste's profile details below include the words 'hir' and 'sie' is because in terms sexual identity / orientation, Terre Thaemlitz is non-gender specific . The words are amalgamated. 'Hir' referring to 'her' / 'him', and 'Sie' referring to 'she' / 'he'. Terre Thaemlitz: was born in Minnesota and raised in Missouri. Terre moved to New York in the mid-1980s to pursue art scholarship at Cooper Union. Soon distracted by the growing New York house scene, sie began DJing at drag balls and benefits, leading to an Underground Grammy for best DJ in 1991. Although primarily a "dance DJ", Thaemlitz's insistence upon integrating house music's more simplistic patterns with challenging, elaborated structures; earned hir an uneasy relationship with club promoters looking for DJs whose only commitment was a monotonous dance formula. In collaboration with Karen aka "RevelinginReverie" www.youtube.com Karen provided electric guitar work in 5 separate tracks. The guitar work was vital to the overall sound. She put a lot of work into it and I am very grateful. We're working on a band name for this trip hop / chill out music side project. Influences: Massive Attack, Portishead, Enigma, Lemon Jelly, FC Kahuna, Groove Armada, Thievery Corporation, Hooverphonic, Handsome Boy Modeling School, Chill Out Paris collection, Verve Remixed All of the clips were found on youtube with the exception of a few clips I borrowed from two of my favorite movies: "The Fall" (2008) and "The Fountain" (2006). There are audio samples from 1950s youtube videos. One on feminism, another on controlling emotions, Vivien Leigh, and a 1950s Beauty contest. I worked on this heavily over a span of 3 days on the audio, but the video took a week. I began the project on the basis of wanting to experiment with a new bass emulating virtual instrument that I found. It evolved into this. The creation became a religious experience in the end. I have an extensive sampling library filled with numerous sounds. In one of my libraries, I have about 100 individual words whispered by an australian woman. The initial focus of the project then became picking the words that meant something to me and arranging them in a meaningful way. The rest followed. I think of this as a complicated Rorschach test.
