[HD] Richard MEIER - (2006) - Museo Dell'ARA PACIS (Roma - ITALIA)

Casa in Italia

Built in the 1920s in Venetian-Byzantine style, this house is the perfect reproduction of typical Renaissance architecture the influence of which can be found as well in many buildings dating from the same period in Trieste, Gorizia and in Venices Lido. In spite of its uniqueness, the building is not listed in the Register of heritage properties and fine arts, due to its comparatively recent construction, still no alteration of its outer façade is allowed, whereas it is possible to rearrange the layout of the floor-plans. The added value of the house from the technical point of view is the fact that the engineer who supervised the construction work approached the building process paying much attention and care to the reproduction of an authentic Venetian ambience - which is testified to by the columns, loggias, balconies, decorated doors and arch-headed windows. At the same time more traditional materials, such as wood and stone from Istria, were combined with reinforced concrete, which back then was the state of the art in building engineering, thus contributing to the houses perfect mix of aesthetics and static firmness. The interior is enriched with stucco and wooden ceilings, oak window frames with double glazing, multi-colored marble floorings and traditional Marmorino Venetian plasters, not to mention the beautifully-decorated fireplace and the hand-painted fresco ceilings of the loggia facing the garden. Distances: major towns and places of cultural interest Venice ...
